My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that an individual’s educational experience not only shapes who they are as a learner, but also who they are as a person. As teachers, we have the ability to prepare and mold future generations, and that is a gift. Teaching isn’t solely about providing students with the information and skills they need to pass a test; it’s about getting students to think critically and supplying them with problem-solving skills that will help them lead successful and meaningful lives as contributing members of society. Learning is an essential aspect to living, and I believe that it is vitally important as a teacher to encourage students to take an active role in the construction of their own learning.

One of my biggest passions in life is helping others. Teachers have the ability, and the responsibility moreover, of bringing out the best in their students. As a teacher, I strive to help students find their passions, develop critical thinking skills, and become actively invested in their learning. It is my personal mission to inspire and encourage others to love and value learning, and if I could have a positive impact on the learning experience of even one student, it will all be worth it.

Learning is constantly taking place and it occurs in many different ways, but I believe there are certain ways in which students learn best. One of the most important aspects of a student’s education is his ability to construct his own knowledge and understanding of himself, others, and the world around him. Thus, I plan to implement constructivist practices within my classroom so that students are able to take an active role in their learning. Open-ended questioning, projects, and groupwork are some practices I plan to utilize to help students actively construct knowledge together, building off prior knowledge and internal schemata. I also believe that students learn best when they are able to bounce ideas off one another and see that everyone has a different perspective of the world around them. I will encourage and integrate cooperative learning into my lessons so that students are able to learn from their peers, dive deeper into their own understandings, and further develop the social skills they need to live a successful life.

Overall, I strive to create a classroom environment in which students feel safe, valued, respected, and encouraged to dive deeper into their learning. After all, it is our job as teachers to bring out the very best in our students and to get them to realize their infinite potential to learn and grow into extraordinary humans.
